If you don’t have an existing garden already, you might want to consider planting some vegetable seedlings in containers for a couple of reasons. In order to build a regular garden from scratch, you need to remove the sod, remove any rocks, till the soil, and most likely amend the soil to get it into shape for planting. That all amounts to a lot of work. In certain cases if you are living in a development of on government property, you would also be required to return the garden plot to the original condition if you ever needed to leave that home for any reason.

Planting in containers solves all of those problems. You can easily move the containers around to get maximum sunlight or move them into the shade for the plants that do not need direct sunlight. It is easy to control the water each plant gets. You can monitor the soil condition and add any amendments the soil may need as the plants mature.

You may have containers around already that you are not using such as the pots that flowers come in from a nursery that would be suitable for a container garden. If you do not have any containers you can find them for a reasonable price at any nursery or big box store. If you start early enough, you can plant seeds. If you start later in the season you can find vegetable seedlings in a variety of places. Do you live in a high-rise with only a deck? Then containers are your ticket to having fresh veggies to cook and eat. Go grab some containers today and get started. Gardening is fun and educational. The added benefit of fresh food is nice too!
